Travel Tips
If you were listening to me on Bizz Buzz Live this morning you would have heard my Travel Tips. Here they are again for your organizational pleasure. If you have any tips of your own that you would like to share, feel free to comment!
• With the Holidays coming up, what can people do now to get ready for family trips?
First of all remember why you are traveling. Is it for business or pleasure? Are you looking forward to visiting grandma or is it see your long lost cousin? If you begin your travel plans with a beneficial end in mind you are more likely to enjoy your trip that much more. Then it’s time to make your travel destination reservations.
• What’s the best way to pack for a weekend trip? How about longer trips?
First of all think about only taking items with multiple uses. Of course there will always be specialty items like your cell phone charger, but definitely make your clothes do double duty. Two bottoms and two tops can give you 4 days worth of clothes. Add a sweater or blazer to the mix and your options have doubled even further. That’s how you go from 2 days to 8 days worth of travel clothes.
• With all of the airport security measures, what is the best way to make it through security unmolested?
Leave your house already metal-detector friendly, ie wear loafers or slip on shoes and take off the big metal belt buckle. Keep all metal objects and cell phones in your carry on bag. Have your quart sized bag with your toilettries handy. Finally don’t forget to keep your bording pass out.
• If I’m traveling with small children, what are some kid-friendly tips?
Make it a game for them such as “I SPY” or let them bring paper and pencils to draw what they see on the trip. Also, it’s never too soon to have them start packing their own clothes. If they are responsible for their luggage, it makes the trip more of a learning experience. Just double check to make sure they don’t forget something vital, like underwear. Most importantly, try to keep to a regular eating schedule to avoid low blood sugar crankiness.
• There’s nothing worse than getting to your destination and forgetting something important, how do you avoid that?
Don’t panic and remember that most items can be replaced at your destination. If you don’t travel often, use a checklist of things that you need to bring. Pack your prescription medications in both a carry-on and checked luggage.
• How can I make the most of my traveling experience so it’s more enjoyable?
Again, remember why you’re traveling and that the hassel of travel will hopefully be all worth it when you see grandma smiling at the end of the trip. Also, remember if you’re a person who needs quiet, to bring headphones to help give you virtual privacy. Finally, never leave home without your earplugs! They are crucial for surviving plane trips with crying infants and noisy next door hotel neighbors.
Safe Travels!
